Bond Falls in Spring, Michigan UP

Bond Falls is one of the most majestic waterfalls in the upper peninsula of Michigan. Located near Paulding, Michigan in Haight Township, this wide waterfall flows swiftly across the black rocks.

When I was here on a muggy day in June of 2020, the fresh, green foliage of the trees, bushes, and grasses contrasted with the grey sky and foamy white water of the falls. It’s almost as if there is only one true color.

Getting to the falls is quite easy, as you can simply park in the lot and it’s just a very short, 30-second walk down the boardwalk to the viewing area.

The only bad thing I can say is that the area was infested with swarms of mosquitos. My travel companion and I used 100% DEET to repel them, which was effective. However, we quickly learned that it should not be applied directly to the face, as it causes your lips to go numb and is quite irritating near the eyes.

It was worth it, though! This is by far the most picturesque water fall I’ve seen in the upper peninsula and it would be worth revisiting. There are two beautiful halves of the falls that can be seen from various areas. This is the second half away from the entrance of the trail that I think is the most photogenic.
